Paul Lato Hyde Chardonnay Goldberg Variations No 1 2018

Paul Lato Hyde Chardonnay Goldberg Variations No 1 2018

2018 - No. 1: From the cooler Carneros region of Napa Valley, the Goldberg Variations Hyde Vineyard, made with full malolactic fermentation and aged in 80% new oak, is another Chardonnay that’s up with the crème de la crème of California. Lots of ripe peach and nectarine fruits, subtle tropical notes, plenty of spice and brioche, medium to full-bodied richness, and a juicy, lengthy finish all make for a killer wine to enjoy over the coming 5-7 years. The palate is powerful but weightless, concentrated but lively, with minerally notes and loads of floral perfume, finishing long and pure. 97 points rated by Jeb Dunnuck

2020 - No. 3: The 2020 Chardonnay Goldberg Variations No. 3 Hyde Vineyard comes from a great site in Carneros, in the southern part of the Napa Valley. It has a pure, clean, classy nose of ripe melon and honeyed apples as well as notes of toasted bread and white flowers. It's not quite as complex as some of the other releases here yet is incredibly pure, balanced, and medium-bodied on the palate, with everything in the right place. It has the balance and freshness to benefit from a year or two in bottle and should have 7-8 years, if not a decade, of prime drinking. 95 points rated by Jeb Dunnuck
