Egomei Alma 2009

Egomei Alma 2009

Egomei Alma comes in a huge heavy bottle (it almost looks like a magnum!) and seems to be a beast of a wine. The color is a very dark opaque cherry, almost black and it also smells of all things black: black cherries, blackberries, black currants but especially charred oak, peat, smoke, tar and shoe polish with hints of (dark) chocolate and espresso coffee. The palate is not as extracted as I thought it would be, but the flavors are dominated by the toast of the barrels. It tastes of coal. This is a very good wine, but it's clearly for fans of the style. Hopefully it will absorb some of the oak influence as the fruit underneath it is very good indeed. 93 points rated by Guia Penin
